Tour Overview
On this 8 days Eastern Tour you will go off the beaten track to explore the East! You will visit Ssezibwa Falls, Mabira Forest, Bujagali Falls, challenging the rapids and the source of the Nile in Jinja.
You will continue further east to visit the Mt Elgon National Park and huge cave camping.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival At Entebbe Airport
you will be welcomed by our representative who will transfer you to a hotel in Kampala. Dinner and overnight at hotel Africana or Hotel Triangle Kampala
Day 2: Kampala – Jinja
In the afternoon, you will be guided to the core of the falls at the bAfter breakfast we will leave the capital city and head towards Jinja, the origin of the mighty River Nile. On our way we will have a stop at Ssezibwa Falls and Mabira Forest where hikers will enjoy a walk through this beautiful forest, with different primates, birds and butterflies.
There are many options this day, including a visit to the Source of the Nile, the Bujagali Falls, floating down on the challenging rapids and relaxing on the shores of the Nile. Dinner and overnight at Jinja.
Day 3: Jinja – Mount Elgon
We depart Jinja and drive to the eastern part of Uganda. Drive through Mbale, a charming town at the foot of the Mount Elgon. This area is full of rich heritage and fascinating culture. With some beautiful view points on the way, we will reach Sipi Village, huddled between mountains and waterfalls.
After lunch at Lacam Lodge, take a hike to the lovely Sipi Falls. Pass typical African bandas, banana plantations and maize fields while you climb to the different waterfalls. Dinner and overnight at Lacam Lodge
Day 4: Piswa Camp
After breakfast we will move you to Kapkwata, from where you will initiate your hike, following the Kapkwata Trail. It is a lovely route running through the bamboo, heath and moor land, arriving at the Piswa Camp. Dinner and camping at Piswa Hut Campsite
Day 5: Hunters Cave Camp
Hike up to the rim of the caldera through good-looking columns of the most rare and prevalent plant species like the giant Lobelia Elgonensis. And of course a visit to the slopes of Mount Elgon can’t go devoid of finding the wild Everlasting flowers. Visit the hot springs and Suam Gorge before sliding to the Hunters Cave Camp. Dinner and camping at Hunters Cave Camp
Day 6: Mude Cave Camp
Enjoy a morning breakfast and then climb to the top of the caldera to the Wagagai Peak at 4321 meters. Move down thereafter through the Jackson summit (4200 meter) and the Jackson pool to arrive at Mude Cave Camp at 3500 meters. Dinner and camping at Mude Cave Camp
Day 7: Mount Elgon – Kampala
In the early hours of the morning, descend in the course of the Sasa trail to Budadiri and then travel back to Mbale town. After having lunch in this calm city, proceed to Kampala where you can relax and pull back the picture of your climb of the second highest summit in Uganda. A wonderful memory! Dinner and overnight in Kampala.
Day 8: Departure
With an experience of a lifetime and unforgettable memories all over your mind, you will say farewell to the Pearl of Africa. Based upon your departure schedule, you might have some time to spend in Kampala and shop for souvenir. Or leave early for Entebbe and visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre for a last meeting with the beautiful flora and fauna of the country in the artificial habitats. Afterwards we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back home.
